Curriculum Information...
Warren Woods Christian School exceeds
the requirements set forth by the State Board of Education, and is
accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International.
The academic program is designed to
help the student achieve a solid foundation in basic learning
skills. Along with the acquisition of facts and concepts in the
subject matter studied, emphasis is placed upon developing powers of
reasoning. Methods of teaching proven to be effective are utilized,
along with a constant influx of new material. Since children differ
in innate ability, we encourage and expect each student to do his or
her best. We believe the traditional system of education develops
the mind and builds character.
The school year consists of two
18-week semesters. Each semester is divided into 2 quarters.
WWCS has
designed their curriculum to meet and/or exceed the
expectation and benchmarks set by the MI D.D.E.
Textbooks are selected by the faculty and administration
and are frequently reviewed for content and accuracy.
Elementary
School
Knowing that reading
and writing skills are the trunk to academic
success, our primary teachers (grades K-3) focus on
phonetic awareness, basic grammar concepts and
successful reading methodologies. It is our goal to
share a love for literature and learning beginning
with the youngest students.
Out elementary
school (grades 1-5) have adopted the Everyday Math
program to teach reasoning and higher level thinking
skills when it comes to numbers. Along with this
program, the memorization of basic facts and
fundamental formulas is emphasized at all grade
levels.
History and Science
is taught from a Judeo-Christian platform. We
understand that these values were foundational in
the founding of our country. Also, that science
cannot be taught without the inclusion of our
Intelligent Designer.
An introduction to
Spanish begins in Kindergarten and is developed
through the primary grades (k-2). Beginning in
third grade, our students participate in a formal
Spanish program.
Along with academic
subjects, WWCS believes that all learning should
evolve around God’s Word. Therefore, Bible is
taught as a core subject at all grade levels, and
Biblical principles are integrated into all subject
matter and expected behavioral guidelines.
Middle School
Our Middle School
program has been designed to make all children
successful. Beginning with organizational
management and the teaching of study skills, all
core academic classes focus on reasoning and
understanding a Christian worldview.
For academically
accelerated students, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1,
Spanish1 and Physical Science are offered in the
Middle School area.
